Entrances & Accessibility

Here you can find all the information about the main entrances and how to get to the Bijlokesite.

Hoofdingang Bijlokesite Godshuizenlaan

The historical Bijlokesite is at a 10-minute walk from the historic city center and 15 minutes from the Gent-Sint-Pieters station.

You can enter the site through two entrances:

  • Bijlokekaai 7, 9000 Gent
  • Godshuizenlaan 2, 9000 Gent (Entrance STAM museum)

Good to know:

Access to the courtyard via Jozef Kluyskensstraat (through the KASK passageway) is closed. For security reasons, HOGENT locks the school building in the evenings, on weekends, and during school breaks. Please enter through the main entrances on Bijlokekaai (Leie side) or Godshuizenlaan (R40 side).

Park your bike in one of our bike racks.

  • Covered racks near Godshuizenlaan 2 – entrance via Bijlokekaai

By tram or bus

The nearest De Lijn stops are:

  • Bijlokehof (Tram T1, T3, T4) - 10-minute walk. From April 13 this Tramstop will not be served until the end of 2026, because of the road works
  • Koning Albertbrug (Bus 9a, 9b, 11, 60) - 10 to 15-minute walk
  • St Pietersplein (Bus 5a, 5b) - 15-minute walk

The easiest way to plan your route is to use De Lijn’s route planner.

By train

The Bijlokesite is located 1 kilometer from the Gent-Sint-Pieters station.

Are you getting off at Gent-Dampoort? Then the easiest way is to continue by train to Gent-Sint-Pieters station.

The closest entrance for those coming on foot from Gent-Sint-Pieters station is Godshuizenlaan 2, near the STAM (about 15 minutes).

By car

The Bijlokesite borders the Ghent inner ring road (R40 – Godshuizenlaan) on one side and is therefore easily accessible by car, even after the implementation of the traffic plan.

! Temporary traffic changes

Due to construction work on the inner ring road near the Bijlokesite, there are fewer parking spaces available. Please allow extra time!

  • Parking spaces on Godshuizenlaan and Henleykaai remain accessible as before. Please note: most parking spaces on Godshuizenlaan heading toward Louis Pasteurlaan are reserved for buses.
  • Bijlokekaai is only accessible coming from Ekkergem (follow the detour: Martelaarslaan > turn left at the Delhaize traffic lights > turn directly onto Bijlokevest > go straight all the way to Kluyskensstraat > Bijlokekaai). You can reach Martelaarslaan via the outer ring road (R4), Drongen exit.

Parking in surrounding streets

There is no parking on the historic Bijlokesite itself.

There are ample parking options in the surrounding streets.

  • These are located in the orange parking zone
  • Parking times and rates can be found here
  • Please note: during major concerts, these spots fill up quickly. Plan your arrival well in advance to ensure you arrive on time
  • Also be mindful of resident parking spaces

Parking nearby, whitin walking distance

There are several large underground parking garages within walking distance. Be sure to check whether your vehicle is permitted in the Low Emission Zone (LEZ). If not, it’s best to park outside the small ring road (R40). There are ANPR cameras.

Park & Ride

Take advantage of the Park & Ride options on the city outskirts and transfer to public transportation. The following P+R parking lots have a direct tram connection to the Bijloke site (Bijlokehof stop).

Low Emission Zone

Starting in January 2020, a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will be in effect in Ghent within the inner ring road (R40).

The Bijlokesite borders the R40, so the site will remain accessible regardless of the type of vehicle you use. If you stay on the R40 (Godshuizenlaan), if you go to the Bijlokekaai by car you enter the Low Emission Zone.

Is your vehicle not permitted in the LEZ? Then please park along the city ring road and not in the surrounding streets.

The Gent Zuid (underground) parking garage and the Campus Prins Filip (Jubileumlaan) parking garage remain accessible to cars that are not permitted in the LEZ (both are a 15-minute walk from De Bijloke).

Check here to see if your car is permitted in the LEZ.
