The permanent exhibition “The Story of Ghent” starts with a huge aerial photo of Ghent today and takes you on a chronological journey through objects and multimedia. You can feel Ghent growing and developing. It covers everything that makes Ghent Ghent and what makes Ghent a city.

The STAM goes beyond Ghent alone and also asks what makes a city a city. That question is contained in “The Story of Ghent” and in the temporary exhibitions. Thanks to the children's trail, the STAM is also the ideal family outing.
